Recap Drift King Malaysia

oleh Pride N'Joy

As we all know, Pride N'Joy has begun venturing into the world of drifting by collaborating with Tenn, a drift team that recently underwent a major rebranding. The drift scene is known for its numerous international tournaments, and this past August, one of ASEAN’s biggest drift events, Drift King, was held in Malaysia, featuring drivers from various countries, including Indonesia.

The 2024 Drift Kings Asia season kicked off with two thrilling rounds in Malaysia, setting the stage for a high-intensity year. Malaysia welcomed drivers, fans, and the motorsport community, providing a perfect platform for both local talents and international stars. Defending Malaysian champion Fazreen Ismail returned with a strong determination to keep his title, facing fierce competition, including two Formula Drift (FD) drivers making their mark on the Asian tour.

Among the top competitors was Emmanuel Amandio, Indonesia’s renowned champion and a major contender for the 2024 title, who qualified in 4th place. With the final round set to take place in his home country, Amandio was prepared to fight hard for the championship, raising the stakes even higher.

The Top 16 unfolded as expected, but the Top 8 was where the real drama began. A highly anticipated showdown between RomeCP and Fazreen Ismail saw RomeCP’s aggressive push lead to a crash against the wall, cutting his journey short and advancing Fazreen to the semifinals. Meanwhile, Amandio showcased his skills by eliminating Han Bin from China. Elsewhere, Alieff Irfan, the NDS Supercup winner, pulled off a surprising victory to claim a semifinal spot, while Malaysian legend Amirul Taufek completed the final four.

The semifinals were intense, with Fazreen’s relentless driving forcing Amandio into a crucial mistake during his lead run, costing him a spot in the final. On the other hand, Amirul Taufek defeated Alieff Irfan in a tight battle, setting up an all-Malaysian final showdown.

Round 2 of the 2024 Drift Kings Asia season in Malaysia delivered even more excitement, surprises, and fierce battles, wrapping up an unforgettable weekend of world-class drifting. The day kicked off with the much-anticipated return of Charles Ng, who overcame technical issues from Round 1 to secure the top qualifying spot. Close behind were RomeCP and Amandio, both putting on strong performances, setting the stage for a highly competitive battle among the top-ranked drivers.

The first major upset of the day came when RomeCP spun out in the Top 16, leading to his early elimination—a shock to fans and fellow drivers alike. With the remaining top contenders advancing, the tension built up for a high-stakes quarterfinal showdown.
The quarterfinals delivered drama, skill, and controversy. Charles Ng, the pole sitter, faced Amirul Taufek, who had finished second in Round 1. Despite Ng’s experience, Taufek’s incredible chase run gave him the edge, allowing the local hero to advance to the semifinals.Meanwhile, Amandio went head-to-head with Alvito, who had qualified in 6th place. After a hard collision damaged Amandio’s car—determined to be Alvito’s fault—Amandio made repairs and came back strong to win the battle and secure his semifinal spot.

The semifinals brought two electrifying matchups. In a battle of precision vs. speed, Taufek’s consistency paid off, as a miscalculated contact from the incredibly fast Umbu led to his disqualification, sending Taufek to the final for the second time that weekend. Meanwhile, the other clash was nothing short of legendary, featuring the reigning champion vs. Indonesia’s drifting icon. In two razor-tight runs, Amandio delivered an exceptional lead and chase, ultimately outdriving Fazreen to claim his spot in the final.
The grand final saw Amirul Taufek and Emmanuel Amandio go head-to-head in an epic battle between two of the weekend’s best drifters. Amandio’s precision and experience gave him the upper hand, securing him the victory and closing the Malaysia leg in spectacular fashion.

With Malaysia now in the books, all eyes turn to the final round in Indonesia, set for December 6-8, where the championship title will be decided. This event will also host Finissima, celebrating the 20th anniversary of Drift Kingsin grand style. Stay tuned for more action!
