Sound of Joy Vol. 1 Recap

by Pride N'Joy

On December 29, 2024, Saga Vigor Bandung was packed with a sea of people dressed like true gig-goers and scene kids. Pride N Joy had just wrapped up its very first gig event, successfully selling out around 190 tickets. For a debut event, it was safe to say it was a success.

The night featured six performers, five bands and one DJ. At exactly 7 PM, the opening act, Kapsul, took the stage. This newly formed nu-metal band from Bandung had already gathered a solid crowd, with some attendees singing along to their songs. Kapsul set the tone for the night, getting the audience hyped and ready for the next act. Up next was Puremoon, who played tracks from their latest album. Their shoegaze sound captivated the crowd, and to everyone's surprise, even inspired a rare stage dive, an uncommon sight for a shoegaze band.

As the night progressed, the venue filled up with fans sporting various outfits. It was time for Rounder, a chaotic metal band from Bandung, to take the stage and turn up the energy. Having recently released an EP, the crowd was eager to see them perform. From the first note, they completely took over, igniting a non stop frenzy in the mosh pit. Their energy on stage was contagious, making their set one of the most intense of the night.

The heat only intensified as Nahla, the fierce vocalist of Tasik’s hardcore band, took over, delivering piercing screams while the crowd grew wilder. By 9 PM, it was time for the headliner. Enola, who had traveled all the way from Surabaya, brought a melancholic, chilling, and blue-hued shoegaze atmosphere. A powerful "Stop the Genocide" message supporting Palestine was displayed on the visuals, moving the audience deeply, some even shed tears as they connected with the lyrics.

Finally, the night reached its peak as DJ Klav took over, spinning an epic set to close out the event on a high note.

Sound of Joy Vol. 1 was a night to remember, marking a historic moment for Pride N Joy. And the good news? Sound of Joy Vol. 2 is on the way, with an even bigger and more exciting lineup. Stay tuned for the announcement, only on PnJ’s social media!
