Most denim is right-hand twill: a diagonal weave that, over time, tugs the leg seam into a gentle spiral known as leg twist. In the mid-20th century a clever solution appeared — break the twill. Alternate the direction of the weave in a zig-zag and the fabric relaxes, hanging straight and true.
We brought that heritage weave into the present in pairs like the Higate and Harold. Broken twill has a distinct hand — what we call “sturdy softness.” The interrupted weave releases the fabric's tension, so it feels broken-in from day one while staying tough for years.
It also fades unlike anything else. The zig-zag structure catches light differently, giving worn broken twill a textured, almost woven-shadow character you won't find in standard denim.
