Selvedge — a contraction of “self-edge” — is denim woven on vintage shuttle looms that finish the fabric's edge as they go, leaving that clean, banded seam you find when you cuff a pair. It is the opposite of speed. A modern projectile loom can flood a factory with cloth; a shuttle loom makes roughly one metre an hour, swinging a wooden shuttle back and forth like a metronome that never tires.
That slowness is the point. The gentle, uneven tension of a shuttle loom produces denim with character baked into the weave — subtle slubs, a living surface, an edge that will not unravel. It is fabric made the way it was made when workwear was built to outlast the worker.

At Pride N Joy we source selvedge from mills that still run these looms, then cut and sew each pair one at a time. The result is denim with a spine: it holds its shape, ages honestly, and rewards the years you put into it.
