Raw denim is unwashed and unsanforised-feeling out of the box — stiff, deep, and full of indigo waiting to move. The classic advice is simple: resist the wash. The longer you wait, the higher the contrast of your fades, because the indigo only sheds where the fabric flexes.
“Wear them hard, wash them late, and let the indigo tell the truth.”
For the first few months, just wear them. Air them out overnight. Spot-clean spills. When they finally need it, turn them inside out and give them a cold soak or a gentle cold wash, then hang to dry. Never tumble dry raw denim — heat is the enemy of contrast and fit.
Expect a little shrinkage on the first soak; our pairs are made to settle back with wear. And don't chase someone else's fades. The best pair of jeans you will ever own is the one that fades into the shape of your own life.
